NISSAN 1986-1993 Accessing Diagnostic Trouble Codes WITHOUT A SCANNER 1986-93 All Models Self-diagnosis can be read by using the airbag warning lamp. Codes are displayed in diagnosis mode (self-diagnosis). The code last indicated is displayed in initial diagnosis mode. Self diagnosis results in present and initial diagnosis modes can be identified by number of flashes. After the malfunctioning parts have been repaired and the system is returned to the user mode, the diagnosis mode information, displayed as self diagnosis results, is automatically cleared from memory. 1994-2000 1. Turn ignition On. SRS warning lamp will be in user mode. 2. Cycle driver's door switch on and off more than five times within seven seconds to change airbag warning lamp from user to present diagnosis mode. 3. Turn ignition Off and On, then cycle driver's door switch on and off more than once within seven seconds to change SRS warning lamp from present diagnosis mode to initial diagnosis mode, where last indicated diagnostic trouble code is stored. 2000-2002 1. Turn ignition On. 2. Turn ignition Off within one second after airbag warning lamp has been lit for seven seconds. 3. Wait three seconds. 4. Repeat Steps 1 through 3, three times. 5. Turn ignition On. SRS warning lamp will be in diagnosis mode. USING A SCANNER 1. Connect Consult scan tool to vehicle Data Link Connector located under the left-hand side of the instrument panel. 2. Turn ignition On. When Consult tool is connected, the airbag warning lamp will be turned to present diagnosis mode. 3. Press START to operate Consult tool. 4. Press airbag to choose airbag system. 5. Press SELF DIAL RESULTS to read self diagnosis results for explanation and repair order. 6. Press PRINT button to print SELF DIAG RESULTS 1 and 2. 7. After repairing malfunctioning parts, Press ERASE to clear self diagnosis results. 8. Press BACK to return to User Mode. Ensure Consult tool checker indicates SELECT SYSTEM airbag. 9. Push power switch to turn off Consult tool. 10. Turn ignition Off. NISSAN 2002-2011 Accessing DTCs WITHOUT A SCANNER 1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. 2. After airbag warning lamp lights for 7 seconds, turn ignition switch OFF within 1 second. 3. Wait more than 3 seconds. 4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 two more times. 5. Turn ignition switch to ON position. 6. SRS is now in Diagnosis mode. These codes can be read as indicated in Diagnostic Trouble Code Interpretation. 7. After all indicated systems have been serviced and system has been returned to user mode, self-diagnosis system memory will automatically be cleared. USING A SCANNER 1. Connect CONSULT-II SCAN TOOL and CONSULT-II CONVERTER to vehicle data link connector (DLC). 2. Turn ignition to On position. With Consult scan tool connected, airbag warning lamp will be in present diagnosis mode. 3. Press START (NISSAN BASED VHCL). 4. Press airbag. 5. Press SELF-DIAG. 6. Diagnostic code is displayed on SELF-DIAG screen. 7. To review previously stored codes in memory, Press SELF DIAG. 8. Press BACK and go back to SELECT DIAG MODE. 9. Press TROUBLE DIAG RECORD. 10. Diagnostic code is displayed on TROUBLE DIAL RECORD screen. Print diagnostic record. 11. Press BACK key of CONSULT-II until SELECT SYSTEM appears. 12. Turn ignition switch to OFF position, then turn off and disconnect CONSULT- II. ERASING DTCs All Model Years WITHOUT A SCANNER After the faults have been repaired, return to the user mode from the diagnosis mode by turning the ignition Off for at least one second, then turning it back On. If faults have been repaired, unit memory will automatically clear. If repairs are not complete, memory will not clear. USING A SCANNER After repairing faults, return to the SELF-DIAG CONSULT-II screen by Pressing BACK key of CONSULT-II and select SELF DIAG in SELECT DIAL MODE. Press ERASE in SELF-DIAG mode. If repairs are not complete, self-diagnosis results remain stored in the control unit memory. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ INFINITY 1990-2002 Accessing DTCs NOT USING A SCANNER Self-diagnosis codes can also be accessed using the airbag warning lamp. After all indicated systems have been serviced and the system has been returned to the user mode, the self-diagnosis system memory will automatically be cleared. 1. Turn ignition On. airbag warning lamp will be in user mode. 2. Cycle driver door switch on and off more than five times within seven seconds to change airbag warning lamp from user diagnosis to diagnostics mode. 3. Read SRS DTCs as flashing SRS light. USING A SCANNER 1. Connect scanner to vehicle data link connector (DLC). 2. Turn ignition On. With Consult scanner connected, airbag warning lamp will be in present diagnosis mode. 3. Touch START to operate Consult scanner, then touch AIRBAG to choose airbag system. 4. Touch SELF-DIAG RESULTS, SELF-DIAL or SELF-DIAG to read Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). 5. When PRINT is pressed, self-diagnosis information displayed is printed. 6. Touch BACK to return to User Mode. Ensure Consult tool indicates SELECT SYSTEM MODE. INFINITI 2002-2011 Accessing DTCs NOT USING A SCANNER This procedure may also work on some of the older models as well. 1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. 2. After airbag or SRS warning lamp illuminates for 7 seconds, turn ignition switch OFF within 1 second. 3. Wait more than 3 seconds. 4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 two more times. 5. Turn ignition switch to ON position. 6. SRS is now in Diagnosis mode. These codes can be read as normal flashing codes. 7. After all indicated systems have been serviced and system has been returned to user mode, self-diagnosis system memory will automatically be cleared. USING A SCANNER 1. Connect the CONSULT-II scanner and CONSULT-II CONVERTER to vehicle data link connector (DLC). 2. Turn ignition to On position. With Consult scanner connected, airbag or SRS warning lamp will be in present diagnosis mode. 3. Press START (NISSAN BASED VHCL). 4. Press airbag or SRS. 5. Press SELF-DIAG. 6. Diagnostic code is displayed on SELF-DIAG screen. 8. Press BACK and go back to SELECT DIAL MODE. 9. Press TROUBLE DIAG RECORD. 10. Diagnostic code is displayed on TROUBLE DIAG RECORD screen. Print diagnostic recorded. 11. Press BACK key of CONSULT-II until SELECT SYSTEM appears. 12. Turn ignition switch to OFF position, then turn off and disconnect CONSULT- II.
